Mozart 9 Version 9.2.7 April 2008
- Thanks to Mitch Park and J S Pooh for finding a bug when copying from a piece containing a
very long text string. This is now fixed.
- Mitch has also requested "Open D" "Open G" and "Dad Gad" (or "DSus4") tunings
for guitar tablature. These are now available.
- Thanks to Jeroen Neve for pointing out that there are some (albeit) rather
obscure circumstances in which mozart's global preferences can revert unwantedly
to the default settings. This is now fixed.
- Thanks also to Jeroen for pointing out that the "Do you really want to do this"
question when creating an anacrusis can sometimes be asked twice. mozart now
listens better the first time it asks.
- Thanks again to Jeroen for pointing out that exporting a template can leave
spurious hidden stave markers in the template. This is now fixed.
- Thanks yet again to Jeroen for noticing that context-sensitive help didn't work
on the bold button on the toolbar. It does now.
- Thanks once more even to jeroen for showing that hiding items can occasionally
force the caret out of synch. this is now fixed.
- Thanks to Dave Sublette for pointing out that it ought to be possible to replace
a dotted minim in 6/4 time by a multiplet, and that one doesn't have to look at
anything more obscure than Holst's Planets in order to see it done. This
service pack makes it possible in mozart.
- Thanks to John McLaughlin for pointing out that the ^ accent no longer toggles
around 3 states. I had come to the conclusion that a ^ accent below a note was
not needed, but have been reconvinced! It is restored to 3 states.
- Thanks to John Mowad for pointing ut that the ability to save GIF images had
disappeared. This was due to an older version of the 3rd party library
freeimage.dll being inadvertently included with recent service packs. The newer
version is restored by this one, and with it the ability to save GIF images.
- The default play-in metronome setting has been changed to 100bpm instead of 120.
- Thanks to Nigel Sharpe for finding a copy/paste bug when the bar copied begins
with a clef change. This is now fixed.
mozart 9 Version 9.2.5 February 2008
- A first line indent in a template is now correctly respected when a file is
opened. Thanks to Bill Patterson for reporting this one.
- Thanks also to BIll for pointing out that those enamoured of long template names
(and why not?) cannot see the whole name in the template list box horizontally.
It now has a horizontal scroll bar when necessary.
- Bug pre-emption: provision has been made for mozart 9 to open double clicked
files correctly in all circumstances after the release of mozart 10, and to
handle mozart 10 files correctly when the time comes.
- Thanks to Bill Simmons for finding a beamed group of quavers where the beam was
horizontal but looked as if it should have been allowed to slope with the
notes. The beaming algorithm has been adjusted by half a scintilla, and this
beam now slopes.
- Thanks to Mitch Park for pointing out that the [??] tool-bar button had no
tool-tip or status bar message. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Richard Goodman and Nigel Parsons for sending in crucial files which
illustrated problems with inserting clef changes in the middle of bars. This
is now fixed.
- Thanks also to Nigel for an analysis of where Mozart goes wrong in pasting
passages containing relative tempi - this is now fixed too.
- Thanks to Yannick Lecorvaisier for finding a MIDI file which didn't import
correctly; a small improvement in the import algorithm means that it does now.
- Thanks to Jeroen Neve for finding another; another small improvement in the
import algorithm means that it imports correctly now.
mozart 9 Version 9.2.4 December 2007
- Three obscure warning messages have been found outside the translation system,
and brought into it, enabling translation modules to include them.
- Thanks to Jeroen Neve for finding an obscure situation in which a jazz gliss did
not copy and paste correctly. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Bill Patterson for pointing out that muliple-bars-rests
are created irrespective of pauses (fermate) on rests. this should not happen.
It doesn't any longer.
- Thanks to Jeroen Neve for finding a really obscure situation in
which the initial time signature was not always being drawn after entering an
instrument change. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Mich Park for finding a few oddities manipulating chord
shapes. Copying a chord shape onto a tab stave was changing inversions
sometimes. mozart now checks, and if the string tuning of the tab and chord
symbol parts are the same makes a very direct copy preserving the inversion.
- Mitch's comments also highlighted the fact that transposing with
the "preserve pitch" option might change the inversion of a chord shape. This
has now been prevented.
- Sometimes chord shapes were being drawn with too many blank frets
at the bottom. This is now fixed.
- It was sometimes very difficult to get the highlight on text
associated with an instrument change. This is now improved, but it still
requires care with the up/down arrow keys on the barline associated with an
instrument change.
- Thanks to Fred Bridges for noticing that clefs on changing
instrument were not showing a little 8 where that was requested and
appropriate. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to John Dablin for finding a broken link in the help
system. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Bill Simmons for finding apparently same-sized text in
"Footer p1" and "Footer other pages" which were rather different sizes when
drawn. The difference arises from a confusion of conventions: whether it is the
text height or the (slightly larger) "cell height" of the text which is being
described. mozart uses one convention, but I suspect the other may be implicit
in some templates (as a hang over form earlier versions of mozart). This is
therefore a difficult one to cure with certainty, but the solution is to edit
both fonts, forcing mozart to adopt the same convention. This is now scheduled
for review in mozart 10.
- Thanks also to Bill for sending in a file with a form of corruption
we hadn't seen before (in the string cache). The cause is yet to be identified,
but in the mean time the Ctrl+F5 decorruption command has been enhanced so that
it fixes this.
- Thanks to Bengt Johnsson for finding a bug in the chord selector
dialogue when the "Apply" button caused the caret to pass a key change. This is
now fixed.
- Thanks to Alan Bannister for discovering that the File/Duplicate
command does not always respect the structure of lyric lines, and that this can
cause problems editing the duplicated parts. This is now fixed.
- New feature: bar-lines which form the start of a 1st/2nd/... time-bar may now be numbered if
they are also at the start of a new line. thanks to J S Pooh for suggesting
this.
mozart 9 Version 9.2.3 August 2007
- The multilingual installer has been improved so that if you install a language
for mozart
which is the language in use for Windows, then mozart
should
automatically come up in that language the first time it is used.
- Thanks to Cindy Pedder for pointing out that the stave spacing is not being
correctly taken from the template when separating parts with File/Duplicate.
This is now fixed.
- Thanks also to Cindy for noticing that if the caret is after a rest and before a
note, then the grace note entry command fails. This is now fixed too.
- Thanks to Gordon Bower for pointing out that a block
whose selection starts before a note can, when deleted, also remove a phrase
mark which ends on a note immediately before the selection. A very precise
report of the problem made this an easy one to fix.
- Thanks to Miriam B for reporting problems separating parts from a
portrait format score to a lanscape format part. This was a subtle one but
should now be fixed.
- Thanks to Bill Patterson for pointing out that if you separate a
vocal part from the score using no template, then the lyric font defaults to
Times new Roman instead of being taken from the score. It looks like the same
thing was probably happening to the rehearsal mark font. Buth bugs are now
fixed.
- Thanks to Gunnar Nordström for noticing that jazz glissando ornaments between beamed notes
were not being drawn correctly. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Jeroen Neve for managing to insert extra bar lines where it should not
have been possible. It is now impossible to do it those places (or at least
significantly harder). This may have resolved the problem for which Ctrl F5 was
extended in v9.2.2.
- Thanks also to Jeroen for finding that mozart
does not enter a soft line break
on an "extra" bar line unless there are also some countable bar lines on the
system. This is now fixed too.
- Thanks to Mitch Park for noticing that the transposition dialogues did not
default to "nearest transposition". They should have. They do now.
- Thanks also to Mitch for pointing out that playing a selected block ending in DC
or DS was not stopping at the end of the block! This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Bill Simmons for pointing out that the Help/Index command, used when a
music window is open, was opening the contents rather than the index. This is
now fixed.
mozart
9 Version 9.2.2 June 2007
- One or two small changes have been introduced to allow improved integration of
the various language modules.
- Thanks to Michael Bednarek for pointing out that Shift+F10 ought to bring up a
context menu - this is a standard Windows interface. Investigation has found
that mozart
was not looking for this key press, but nevertheless seemed to be
receiving it from some mysterious low-level mechanism, but that the context menu
was coming up in random places - possibly sometimes off the screen! The message
has now been directed to the correct window and Shift+F10 duplicates the Windows
menu key (which is not always present on all keyboards).
- Thanks also to Michael for pointing out (again!) that an extended 8va symbol
could not be hidden if its bracket extended past a line change. This is now
fixed.
- Thanks to Jeroen Neve for reporting a time signature confusion when backspacing
from the end of the piece through a coda symbol with an implicit time change.
This is now fixed.
- Thanks also to Jeroen for pointing out that the Windows Menu key did not always
bring up the right menu in the right place. It turns out that ist was ok with
justification turned off, but that it didn't correctly get the caret position
allowing for justification. It is now fixed.
- Thanks yet again to Jeroen for noticing strange play-back behaviour when pppp
and ffff dynamics are present. This is now fixed too.
- Thanks also to Jeroen for noticing that padding a bar with rests was introducing
courtesy accidentals, and to Tony Caphorn and Jason Riggs who discovered the
same thing happening when converting notes to rests, This too is fixed.
- Thanks to Colin Fine for sending a slightly corrupt file which Ctrl+F5 could not
fix up. The decorruption procedure has been adjusted to allow for this and
Ctrl+F5 now works on this file. It also works on corrupt files sent by Cindy
Pedder and John McLaughlin. The source of the problem is still under
investigation.
- We have found and fixed an obscure problem with grace note enty when the caret
is on the final note of the piece.
- Thanks to Mitch Park for suggesting that sharpening or flattening a note should
make it sound in the same way as if it is physically moved up or down. Rather
than waiting for mozart
10 it has proved straightforward to implement this
here, with the proviso that a whole chord sounds if you change one of its
accidentals. [Doing it differently would have involved larger structural
changes with a potential for more to go wrong.]
- Thanks to Richard Kirkwood for exposing an infelicity in choosing the optimum
default octave when showing a piece at concert pitch. This is now improved.
- Thanks to J S Pooh for pointing out a further shortcoming when drawing mandolin
chords which involve a large finger stretch. These have now been improved.
mozart
9 Version 9.2.1 May 2007
- Thanks to Mitch
Park for finding an unpleasant bug (failure of some tabbed dialogue pages) which
appears only under Windows 98. This crept in in the last couple of service
updates and we're spitting feathers about it. [It took a while to track down,
but having done that, it is now clear that it occurred because of a failure of
Microsoft documentation to note that a certain function (a CPen constructor)
fails under Windows 98 with a certain combination of arguments.] It is fixed
now.
-
Thanks to J S
Pooh for pointing out that one can stretch the fingers on some string
instruments to form chords over more frets the mozart
shows in the chord
editor. For smaller instrument (mandolin, ukelele,...) mozart
now shows more
frets in the chord shape editor.
- Thanks to Raymond
Robijns for pointing out that the "convert to rest" command removes courtesy
accidentals in the relevant bar. It does so no longer.
mozart
9 Version 9.2.0 April 2007
- The mozart
font used by this version is mozart
9.ttf. The
installation procedure has been updated in an attempt to avoid occasional
problems if the font is already installed.
-
Entering extra bars and tempo changes between notes was failing.
This was an imperfection in a bug fix in 9.1.1 (tempo changes in multiplets).
Thanks to everyone who reported this and to Matti Raukko who found a different
manifestation of it when changing a bar of 4/4 to two bars of 2/4.
- The descriptions listed in the colour scheme dialogue, were not
translating until a reboot after a language was selected. Thanks to Jeroen Neve
for finding this one; it is now fixed.
- Thanks also to Jeroen for pointing out that a pause (fermata) was
not being drawn correctly on a bar at the end of a line. This is now fixed.
- Thanks also to Jeroen for finding an instance where showing a
courtesy accidental did not automaticaly introduce enough space. This is now
fixed.
- Thanks to Raymond Robijns for pointing out undesirable behaviour
when deleting bars next to an instrument or voicing change. This is now fixed.
- A problem occurred when clicking near to, but not quite on the
multicolour button in the colours dialogue. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Lucas Gonzalez for finding a combination of swing rhythm and trurn ornaments
which threw mozart
's playback completely out of rhythm. mozart
now does much
better.
- Thanks to J S Pooh for pointing out that the repeat-a-bar symbol repeated the previous bar at
the previous tempo, irrespective of an intervening tempo change. This is now
fixed.
- Thanks to Hugh Daukes for finding a combination of symbols which caused mozart
9 severe
problems - a dynamic (or other item) at zero spacing after a clef change. This
is now fixed.
- Thanks to Wayne Jahnke for finding an old mozart
file which failed to open with mozart
9. the
bug which prevented it is now fixed.
- Thanks to Greg Dunn for pointing out that chords do not print correctly if they are shown on
the screen with the non-scalable font. This is now fixed.
mozart
9 Version 9.1.1 March 2007
- Thanks to "Engelnwald" for finding a MIDI file which tries to import to more than 64 strands,
and reporting it on the mozart
chat group. The unpleasantness this caused is now fixed.
- Explanatory text on the Undo menu was note being picked up from language modules. this is now fixed.
- Attempting to change a stave type immediately after importing from MIDI was causing a crash. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Raymond Robijns for exposing a problem inserting tempo changes nest to multiplets. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Michael Bednarek for noticing that an 8va symbol cannot be hidden when the caret is on the start of its span.
This is now fixed.
- Thanks also to Michael for pointing out that one should be able to turn dotted minim in 3/4 into a doublet crotchet.
Doublets are now possible on dotted notes (a) which are the unit of a compound time (eg dotted crotchet in 6/8) or
(b) occupy a whole bar (eg dotted minim in 3/4).
- Thanks to Jeroen Neve for pointing out that replacing one keyboard instrument by another added a strand to the
bass stave. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Marie Kross for pointing out a problem with loading mozart
files from old formats. Some text fonts
were appearing a little bit odd. After being unable to find the cause, and having almost given up, another small
problem arose, the cause of which (in retrospect) was almost certainly also the cause of the bug Marie found. If so,
it is now fixed.
- Three people have reported problems with a non-functional file menu. I have been completely unable to reproduce
this problem, but suspect that in some cases the wrong version of Microsoft libraries has been picked up.
This update stops that happening and provides a "diagnosis" window available from "About mozart
" to show exactly which
modules are in use. Tests indicate that the problem is now cured.
- Changing instrument and voicing were very poorly indexed in the help system. This is now rectified.
Language Module problems solved:
- Selecting "no template" when duplicating parts sometimes generated a spurious "file not found" message.
Thanks to Jeroen Neve for picking this one up; it is now fixed.
mozart
9 Version 9.1.0 February 2007
- Thanks to Antonia Barker for reporting inadvertent clef changes
when staves are added with Score/ScoreLayout. I haven't been able to duplicate
it but i did find that the caret was not always returning to its original
strand. That, at least, is now fixed.
- Thanks to Bill Simmons for pointing out that 8va's on a grand staff
do not always appear at the vertical location expected when you enter them.
This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Jeroen Neve for noticing that clef changes may sometimes
be too close to the notes before them. This is now corrected.
- Thanks to
Tony Caporn for highlighting an undesirable persistence of the "current
accidental" when you click on a new stave. This is now improved.
- Thanks to Michael
Bednarek for reporting that a pause (fermata) on the lower substaff of a Grand
Staff was being drawn above the upper substaff. This is now corrected.
- By popular
request the harmonium is added to the available instruments.
- If inserting a
beat or changing the top digit of a time signature would result in a bar line
going through where the last note of a multiplet had been previously, mozart
was experiencing alignment and beat problems. Thanks to Jeroen Neve for
discovering this. It is now fixed.
- Thanks to Jeroen
Neve for pointing out that some nearby courtesy accidentals are lost when you
merge notes. This is now corrected.
- Thanks also to
Jeroen for pointing out some undesired caret movement when you click in the
title area (and other non-music areas). This is now fixed.
- Thanks also to
Jeroen for pointing out that selecting a block sometimes selects an unexpected
set of parts. This is now fixed too.
- Thanks yet again
to Jeroen for complaining about the lack of an explanatory message sometimes
when a key change cannot be introduced. This too is fixed.
- Thanks to J S Pooh for finding that mozart
was getting confused sometimes when entering
percussion sets. this is now fixed.
- Thanks to Barry
Brooks for pointing out that mozart
woule be improved if it did not remove
courtesy accidentals when changing a passage's pitch by an octave. In this
version courtesy accidentals are retained on all pitch change operations unless
you remove them explicitly.
- Thanks to Iván Mendieta in Panamá for providing a Spanish version of the instrument database,
which is included in this release.
- Thanks to Jeroen
Neve, for finding a problem combining two normal staves into a grand staff.
This is now also fixed.
mozart
9 Version 9.0.3 December 2006
- Thanks to Roy Best for noticing very quickly that mozart
9.0.2 had
lost Segno (and a couple of other styles) from the list offered in the Barline
Styles dialogue. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Jeroen Neve for pointing out the that the clever new
service pack download method, does not close all instances of mozart
if more
than one is open. This Service Pack should fix that (for next time). Next
time the download operation should indicate the total number of bytes to be
downloaded while it shows progress.
mozart Version 9.0.2 December 2006
- Thanks to Scott West for noticing that copying from a Grand Staff
and pasting to a radically different stave type was not working. This is now
fixed.
- Thanks to Gordon Bower for pointing out that an indented system
which contains an end-of-tune marker before the end of the stave does not print
correctly. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Jeroen Neve for pointing out that tying on the fly was
not mentioned in the tutorial. It is now. [Service Packs will not install the
updated tutorial but you can download it separately from
www.mozart.co.uk]
- Information about new dynamics ffff pppp fp ffp sf sfz sffz was
missing from the help system. It is now there.
- Information about new text substitutions &d &D &h &H was missing
from the help system. It is now there.
- NoteTripleDot now features more prominently in the help system.
- Text fonts can now be edited while the caret is on a lyric line.
- The background colour no longer reverts to the default when you
switch off context colouring. Thanks to Jeroen Neve for pointing out this one.
- A bug in the colouring of the grid text in the voicing change
dialogeu has been fixed.
- The drop-down list in the MIDI-channel column of the score-layout (voice)
and voicing-change dialogues has been made clearer and more powerful following a
shortcoming identified by Jeroen Neve.
- Thanks to Gunnar Nordström for identifying a case where mozart
was
not drawing a simultaneous change of key and instrument correctly. This is now
fixed. If you have an example of this, then it won't appear correctly
automatically but using Ctrl+F5 will now rectify it, and it shouldn't happen
again.
- Thanks to
Matti Raukko for finding a bug with multiple voice changes in a part. This is
now fixed.
- Thanks to Jeroen
Neve for pointing out that copying in "all parts on one stave" mode and pasting
to another stave didn't work properly. It does now.
- Thanks also to
Jeroen for exposing some problems when mozart
tries to tidy up hanging bars full
of nothing at the end of a piece. This is now much improved.
- Thanks also to
Jeroen for noticing an imperfection in the autodot algorithm. You can now use
it for dotted minims in 6/8 and 6/4 and longer dotted notes, even including
dotted breves in 12/4!
- Thanks to J.S.P.
for pointing out that the up/down arrows were not responding in a text-edit
box. This is now fixed.
- It was impossible
to put reiteration marks directly on tab notes. This is now possible.
- Reiteration marks
on tab notes (when created by pasting from a normal staff0 were not being drawn
correctly. This is now fixed. Thanks to Zlatoje Pajcic for sending an example
illustrating it.
- There was some
uncertainty about the behaviour after mozart
stopped playing back a piece.
Thanks to Jeroen Neve for pointing this out. This has now been corrected and the
designed behaviour is that it should scroll to show the caret if playback runs
to the end of the piece, but leave the termination point showing if you
terminate it manually.
- Thanks also to
Jeroen for exposing a bug in the "autodot" procedure when used on chord symbol
staves. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to Michael
Bednarek for reporting a problem with the F9 command. I have fixed *something*
but I'm not yet sure if it is what he reported!
- Thanks to Cedric
Brown for sharing his difficulties in deleting the last strand from a stave.
The help system failed to point out that this requires removal of the stave, and
it is now updated with a cross-reference.
- Chord shapes
shown at Bb-pitch were posing some problems. These are now resolved.
- In the instrument
& stave dialogue the "show rhythm" box was not always being initialised
correctly for tab staves. This is now fixed.
- Thanks to
"Richard the Tuba" for noticing that pasting notes onto tab staves sometimes
puts them below a capo. This is now corrected.
