The band now known as Dr Jazz and The Cheshire Cats
first got together (not far from the home of Lewis Carroll) in late
Spring 2002 because we Thought It Would Be Fun To
Do Some Big Band Stuff.
At our second rehearsal Catherine, our courageous director, told us we were booked to do a whole 2 hour or more concert at the lovely village of Ebchester on the Durham - Northumberland border on 13 July. We enthusiastically set about rectifying the only slight disadvantage - absence of a repertoire - and, came the day, all went swimmingly. The rest (as they say) is history.
Photographs below of the band at Ebchester Community Centre are courtesy of Leslie Geldart.
You may recognise the author of MOZART on some of these shots as the least good looking of the saxophone players, but also wife ("I'm not letting him have all the fun") Margaret on tenor and daughter Jenny (the prettiest of the brass section). a caption competetion to guess what Helen is saying to Julia as Catherine invites us to take a bow. |

Time to go...
But by November 2002 we had reappeared - dress code: 'outrageous in black and white'
